Lady Cries Out After Discovering A Neighbor She Gives Access To Free Wi-Fi Was Charging Other Tenants 12,500 Monthly
A Nigerian woman identified as @official-QV on X (formerly Twitter) has recounted her disappointment after discovering that a neighbour she had been giving free WiFi access had allegedly turned the connection into a source of income.
The woman said she purchased an Airtel WiFi router capable of connecting up to 32 devices and decided to share the service with her neighbour after the woman complained about the high cost of monthly data subscriptions.
Neighbour allegedly turns free WiFi into business
According to @official-QV, she allowed the neighbour to use her WiFi without charging her.
However, the situation reportedly changed after the woman’s sister visited and attempted to connect to the network, only to discover that the router had already reached its maximum capacity.
The discovery prompted the woman to investigate who else was using the connection.
She said there were four flats in the compound, so she asked the tenants about their respective internet service providers.
According to her account, the investigation allegedly revealed that the neighbour had been charging two other tenants ₦12,500 each every month for access to the WiFi.
This meant the neighbour was allegedly collecting ₦25,000 monthly from other tenants using an internet connection that had been provided to her for free.
Lady changes WiFi password
Following the discovery, the woman said she changed the WiFi password, effectively preventing the neighbour and the other unauthorised users from continuing to access the network.
Her experience has sparked reactions online, with many social media users criticising the neighbour for allegedly turning someone else’s generosity into a personal business.
