Police in Anambra state have launched an inquiry into the death of a 25-year-old female student who was discovered on June 18th in circumstances indicating a possible suicide in the state’s Onitsha district.
A note suspected of being a s!uc!de message was also discovered at the location, with a horrific story of a romantic breakup following three abductions for an unidentified man named Chigozie.
In response to the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, stated that, while investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, the development highlights the need for stronger parental guidance, moral upbringing, and emotional support systems for young people.
The CP emphasised that parents and guardians should take a more active role in their children’s and wards’ lives, paying greater attention to their emotional well-being, social connections, and behavioural changes.
He also urged community leaders, educational institutions, faith-based organisations, and civil society groups to increase advocacy and mentorship programs targeted at instilling positive values, resilience, and responsible living in youths.
The police chief has ordered that the case be immediately transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a thorough and discreet investigation.
