Kwara Community Seeks Military Deployments After Bandits Reportedly Dropped Handwritten Notes, Threatening Violent Attacks
The development has heightened fears among residents, who are calling on security agencies and the Kwara State Government to take urgent preventive measures before the threat is carried out.
Residents of Igbowu community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have raised the alarm over an impending attack after suspected bandits allegedly delivered a handwritten threat message warning that the community would soon be invaded.
The development has heightened fears among residents, who are calling on security agencies and the Kwara State Government to take urgent preventive measures before the threat is carried out.
Residents who spoke with SaharaReporters on Thursday disclosed that the suspected terrorists left handwritten inscriptions in the community, notifying residents of their intention to launch an attack.
According to the residents, the message written by the suspected bandits reads: “Igbowu and get ready for us now bandit come.”
The threat has stirred anxiety among community members, many of whom fear that the warning may signal an imminent attack if security measures are not immediately strengthened.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, some residents appealed to security agencies, local vigilante groups, and government authorities to act proactively rather than waiting for an attack to occur before responding.
The residents noted that communities across Kwara South have continued to suffer from repeated incidents of kidnapping and attacks by armed groups, making the latest threat particularly alarming.
Meanwhile, some indigenes of Igbowu community residing in Lagos State told SaharaReporters that they had immediately contacted their relatives back home after learning about the threat.
According to them, they advised family members and other residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or unfamiliar persons within and around the community.
The concerned indigenes also urged local vigilante groups and security operatives to intensify surveillance across the area to forestall any attack.
One of the concerned indigenes told SaharaReporters:”We have communicated with our relatives at home and advised them to be vigilant. We also told them to immediately call on security agencies and local vigilantes to be watchful of any imminent attacks or suspicious movement of strangers in the community.”
The source further appealed to the authorities to treat the threat with utmost seriousness and take preventive action.
“We are calling on the Kwara State Government, the Ifelodun Local Government Chairman, and all security agencies to help us and prevent the attack before it takes place. They should not allow the bandits to invade our community and neighbouring communities before they start launching any investigation.”
The resident added:”Since the bandits have written to the community, the next step is to prevent the attack before it takes place.”
The latest threat comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara South, where several communities have experienced attacks, kidnappings, and other violent crimes in recent months.
Residents pointed to the abduction of the traditional ruler of Afin-Ile, Oba James Olanipekun, in Ifelodun Local Government Area, who was kidnapped more than two months ago and is yet to regain his freedom.
The monarch’s continued captivity has further heightened fears among residents of neighbouring communities, who worry that armed groups may be expanding their operations across the region.
Community members also recalled the recent killing of the wife of an ECWA pastor and four abducted members of the ECWA church in Omu-Aran, incidents that deepened concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the area.
The residents urged security agencies to immediately investigate the threat message, deploy personnel to vulnerable communities, strengthen intelligence gathering, and work closely with local vigilante groups to prevent any attack on Igbowu and surrounding settlements.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Government and security authorities had not publicly responded to the threat allegedly issued against the community.

Among the victims was the wife of the church minister, Pastor Omole. The tragic development was revealed by one of the abductees who managed to escape and shared details of the ordeal.
Sources familiar with the development told SaharaReporters that reports emerging from the kidnappers’ den indicate that five of the abductees are feared dead after spending several weeks in captivity.
Although details surrounding the circumstances of their deaths remain unclear, the information was reportedly relayed by one of the victims who managed to escape from the terrorists’ custody.
According to a source, families of the affected victims have already been informed about the tragic development.
