JUST IN: Troops Foil Kidnappers’ Plot, Rescue 10 Hostages In Benue

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued ten hostages from armed kidnappers in Benue State.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, the operation took place on November 3 when troops deployed at Kyado, while on mobile patrol along the Zaki-Biam–Wukari road, received credible intelligence about a kidnapping incident at a location known as Quarantine Checkpoint.

The kidnappers, reportedly dressed in police uniforms to deceive unsuspecting motorists, were intercepted by the troops who swiftly mobilized to the scene. Upon sighting the soldiers, the criminals fled into nearby bushes, abandoning their captives.

The troops immediately pursued the fleeing suspects and, after a thorough search of the forest area, successfully rescued ten kidnapped victims. Among those rescued was Warrant Officer John Richard of the 6 Brigade Band, Jalingo. Two other victims were, however, still unaccounted for as search operations continue in the area.

The rescued victims were debriefed and handed over to relevant authorities for further action.

Commending the troops for their bravery and professionalism, the Force Commander, Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, praised their swift response and tactical coordination, describing the operation as another demonstration of their commitment to safeguarding citizens.

He also lauded the tactical commander for exemplary leadership and proactive measures in tackling criminal activities within the region.

General Gara assured the troops that their sacrifices and dedication would not go unrewarded, urging them to sustain the momentum, uphold discipline, and remain resolute in their operations against criminal elements in the state.
