In an exemplary display of integrity and professionalism, a top-ranking police officer, Ebong Thompson, who heads the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, has turned down a bribe of N800,000 offered to him to secure the release of an armed robbery suspect and cover up the crime.
According to credible police sources, the suspect was arrested during a high-risk operation carried out by the SWAT Unit in a targeted crackdown on criminal gangs in the area. Following the arrest, individuals believed to be acting on behalf of the suspect reportedly approached Officer Thompson with the cash offer in an attempt to secure the suspect’s freedom and suppress the investigation.
