JUST IN: PDP Cr!sis INEC Declares Wike Faction Invalid, Refuses to Recognise Acting Chairman
According to a report by The Nation on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected a letter signed by Abdulrahaman Mohammed, who claimed to be the acting national chairman of the Nyesom Wike faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The electoral body said the correspondence did not meet the legal requirements for official party communication.
Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu who are loyal to the FCT Minister had written to INEC seeking the postponement of the Ekiti governorship primary scheduled for November 8, 2025.
They cited logistical issues and promised to communicate a new date later. The letter, dated November 6, 2025, asked INEC to take note of the proposed postponement.
Despite their request, the PDP went ahead with the primary on November 8. Dr. Wole Oluyede won the contest with 279 votes, defeating Funso Agent, who scored 239, and Funmilayo Ogun, who received 17 votes.
In a response dated November 10, 2025, and addressed to the party’s National Secretary, INEC firmly rejected the postponement request.
The letter, signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, stated that the notice did not comply with the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
According to the guidelines, notices for congresses or primaries must be jointly signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party.
INEC noted that the submission failed this requirement and therefore could not be accepted. The Commission concluded that the request violated the Electoral Act, rendering it invalid.
