In a developing story, human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been detained by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in Abuja following his court appearance earlier today.

According to human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who confirmed the development on Thursday, he and other legal representatives were denied access to Sowore at the police facility.

Adeyanju described the act as a blatant violation of the activist’s fundamental rights, stressing that even in detention, suspects are entitled to access to their lawyers and family members.
“This is a complete disregard for the rule of law,” Adeyanju said. “The police must allow us to see our client.

Sowore’s continued detention and the refusal to grant access to his legal team raise serious human rights concerns.”
Sowore, known for his outspoken activism and leadership of the #RevolutionNow movement, has faced multiple arrests and legal battles over his stance against government policies and alleged abuse of power.

As of the time of this report, the FCT Police Command has yet to issue an official statement explaining the reason for Sowore’s detention or the decision to deny his lawyers access.

Human rights groups and civil society organizations have begun calling for his immediate release and full respect for his legal rights.
