Israeli Fresh Airstrikes Kill Police Commander, Child, Seven Other Palestinians In Gaza

Fresh Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday killed at least nine Palestinians, including a 10-year-old boy and a senior Hamas police commander.

Medical officials in Gaza said the casualties occurred in separate attacks in Rafah, Jabalia and Khan Younis, while Hamas authorities accused Israel of deliberately targeting law enforcement infrastructure across the besieged enclave, according to Reuters.

In northern Gaza’s Jabalia area, an Israeli drone reportedly fired four missiles at a police station situated near a crowded marketplace inside a displacement camp.

The strike killed at least seven people, including the station’s commander, Colonel Mohammad Marwan Salem, who headed the Jabalia police force, his deputy, and several other officers.

A woman was also reportedly among those killed, while several others sustained injuries.

The Hamas-run Interior Ministry confirmed the deaths in a statement, describing the attack as another strike on Gaza’s civilian policing system.

According to Gaza officials, the officers were responsible for maintaining public order in one of the enclave’s busiest commercial areas, serving thousands of displaced civilians.

In southern Gaza, medics said 10-year-old Muataz Abu Shaar was killed after being shot by Israeli gunfire in Rafah.

Another Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis killed a 36-year-old Palestinian man and wounded three others.

The Israeli military said the Khan Younis strike targeted a Hamas militant but did not immediately comment on the incidents in Jabalia or Rafah.

The latest attacks came as Hamas leaders were in Cairo for renewed negotiations aimed at advancing the second phase of a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States under President Donald Trump.

Sources familiar with the talks said discussions have focused on Israel’s demand that Hamas surrender its weapons and relinquish military control of Gaza, alongside proposals for further Israeli troop withdrawals.

However, negotiators said little meaningful progress has been achieved in recent weeks.

While Hamas has indicated its willingness to hand over administrative governance of Gaza, the group has consistently rejected calls to disarm, insisting that Israeli violations of the ceasefire remain the primary obstacle to implementing the next stage of the agreement.

Israeli forces have intensified strikes against Hamas security personnel and police facilities since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, with dozens of security officers reportedly killed during that period.

The Gaza Government Media Office said Israeli forces have committed 3,689 violations of the ceasefire since it came into force on October 10, 2025.

According to the office, at least 1,122 Palestinians have been killed and 3,599 others injured in Israeli attacks during the ceasefire period alone.

The violence has continued to worsen humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where nearly two million residents, many displaced multiple times since the war began, remain confined to overcrowded tent settlements and damaged buildings along the Mediterranean coast.

The current war began after Hamas-led fighters launched a cross-border attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people, according to Israeli authorities.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed in the territory since the conflict erupted.
