Iran Announces Three-Day State Funeral for Ayatollah Khamenei After US-Israeli Strike

Iran has announced plans for a three-day state funeral for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli strikes on February 28 at the start of the Middle East war.

Authorities say the ceremonies will take place in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad, with Khamenei set to be buried in the shrine of Imam Ali Reza in Mashhad.

Tehran’s deputy mayor said the procession in the capital alone could last at least 24 hours, with preparations underway for up to 20 million mourners

The funeral was originally scheduled for March 4 but was postponed due to the ongoing war and logistical challenges of managing massive crowds.

Officials now expect it to be held in early Muharram, likely mid-June, though the exact date has not yet been announced
