IPOB Declares Former DOS Head Edoziem’s Actions Illegal, Reaffirms Nnamdi Kanu’s Authority
IPOB reiterated Kanu’s inauguration of a new fourth administration headed by Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ of the United States, adding that the decision was “lawful, final, binding, and immediately effective.”
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared that the third administration of its Directorate of State (DOS), previously headed by Chika Edoziem, remains dissolved as announced by its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB described subsequent actions taken by Edoziem and members of the former leadership as “illegal, null, and void.”
In a statement issued on Friday by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB said the dissolution of the third DOS administration carried out by Kanu was in accordance with powers conferred on him under the group’s Code of Conduct.
IPOB reiterated Kanu’s inauguration of a new fourth administration headed by Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ of the United States, adding that the decision was “lawful, final, binding, and immediately effective.”
The group accused Edoziem and members of the dissolved administration of attempting to suspend the office of Kanu and the Director of Radio Biafra after their removal, insisting that such actions had no legal basis.
“Such action is not merely irregular; it is illegal, unconstitutional, null, void, and of no effect whatsoever. No person can derive authority from an office that has already ceased to exist,” Powerful stated.
IPOB cited provisions of its Code of Conduct, particularly Section II, Subsection A on appointments and dismissals, which it said vested the power to appoint, suspend, or remove principal officers exclusively in Kanu unless expressly delegated.
“The power to appoint, suspend or dismiss erring principal officers vests exclusively on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, except and to the extent he clearly and expressly delegates that power to any other principal officer,” the group said.
The group maintained that no coordinator, committee, principal officer, or any other body within IPOB had constitutional authority to suspend or overrule Kanu.
IPOB described attempts to suspend the IPOB leader as “foolish and delusional” and accused Edoziem and his associates of gross insubordination, abuse of office, constitutional misconduct, and efforts to undermine the command structure of the organisation.
“The actions of Chika Edoziem and his associates constitute a grave breach of the IPOB Code of Conduct,” the group said.
IPOB further accused the former officials of rejecting what it termed a lawful dissolution and choosing “the path of rebellion against the very authority from which they previously derived their legitimacy.”
Reiterating that IPOB remains a disciplined organisation governed by rules and procedures, the group said obedience to lawful authority and adherence to its chain of command are mandatory for all members.
The group warned that any directives, appointments, suspensions, or statements issued by Edoziem or members of the dissolved administration after their removal should be disregarded.
“The 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State no longer exists. Its tenure has been terminated by lawful authority, and its powers extinguished,” Powerful stated.
IPOB also urged media organisations to exercise caution when reporting issues concerning the movement and to avoid treating statements from individuals it said no longer held recognised authority as official positions of the group.
The group reaffirmed its loyalty to Kanu and declared that the newly constituted fourth administration under Chris Nwaọgụ remained fully operational and accountable to the IPOB leader.
IPOB called on supporters worldwide to remain committed to the Biafra agitation and warned that members who continued to challenge Kanu’s authority or violate the organisation’s Code of Conduct could face suspension, removal from office, or expulsion.
“The era of indiscipline, constitutional recklessness, and unauthorised power-grabbing within IPOB is over,” the statement added.
“The authority of the Supreme Leader remains supreme, unquestionable, and binding on all members.”
