IN 2006, HER FATHER DIED IN A MILITARY PLANE CRASH. 20 YEARS LATER, HER HUSBAND DIED IN ANOTHER.
On September 17, 2006, tragedy struck the family of Wing Commander E. O. Adekunle, a Nigerian Air Force officer who died in a military aircraft crash in Benue State.

The Nigerian Air Force Dornier 228, carrying senior military officers, crashed in the Oko area of Vandeikya Local Government Area while travelling towards Cross River State.
Among the 13 military officers who lost their lives was Wing Commander Adekunle, who was serving as the aircraft’s co-pilot.
His death left behind a family forced to live with the painful memory of a father who left home for a military flight and never returned.
Then came 2026.
According to reports following the latest Nigerian Air Force crash, Wing Commander Adekunle’s daughter, Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle, married Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje on September 19, 2026.
It was supposed to mark the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in her life.
But just 16 days later, tragedy struck again.
On October 5, 2026, Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje was among the Nigerian Air Force personnel who lost their lives when NAF 931 crashed at Igbokoda in Ondo State. He was serving as the aircraft’s co-pilot.
Think about the pain.
A woman who had already lost her father in a military aircraft crash years earlier had just started building her own family. Then, barely two weeks after her wedding, she lost her husband — another Nigerian Air Force pilot — in another aircraft crash.
In 2006, her father went on a military flight and never came home.
In 2026, she married a military pilot, and 16 days later, he too was gone.
The tragedy is even more striking because both families were connected to the Nigerian Air Force.
• Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje was the son of a retired Group Captain Man-Ugwueje.
• His wife, Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle, is reported to be the daughter of the late Wing Commander E. O. Adekunle.
Two Air Force families. Two generations. Two devastating losses.
May the souls of Wing Commander E. O. Adekunle, Squadron Leader Ahamefule Man-Ugwueje, and all the officers who lost their lives in these crashes continue to rest in peace.
Some stories are more than history. They are wounds that echo across generations.
