Ilawole Salutes Peaceful Polls, Urges Prompt Federal Measures to Protect Aiyetoro Community
Taiwo Ilawole, former House of Assembly aspirant for Ilaje Constituency 1, congratulates Dr. Dayo Faduyile on his decisive victory in yesterday’s Ondo South senatorial by-election and calls for urgent federal intervention to address the worsening Aiyetoro shoreline crisis.
“The overwhelming win by Dr. Dayo Faduyile is a clear display of the love the people have for him and a testament to the strength and resilience of our party in Ondo South,” Ilawole said. “We thank the people of Ondo South for standing firm with the party despite post-election grievances from different quarters. This result reaffirms that our shared values and unity bind us together as progressives.”
Ilawole commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a credible by-election, and he thanked security agencies and domestic and international observers for their role in ensuring a peaceful process. “We appreciate INEC’s dedication, the professionalism of security personnel deployed across the senatorial district, and the impartial observations from across the board that helped safeguard the integrity of the election,” he said.
Ilawole urged the senator-elect to use his mandate to prioritize immediate and sustained action on critical infrastructure deficits across the senatorial district. “On resumption, I charge Senator-elect Faduyile to make the Aiyetoro shoreline emergency a top priority. Half of that community is now threatened by encroaching waters — families, farms and livelihoods are at risk. We need a strong federal response for coastal protection, emergency relief, and long-term mitigation measures,” he added.
He also called on relevant federal agencies, development partners and party stakeholders to coordinate quickly with the senator-elect to deliver practical solutions, including shoreline stabilization, drainage improvements, relocation support where necessary, and community resilience programs.
Ilawole pledged to support Senator-elect Faduyile’s efforts to attract federal resources and meaningful projects to Ondo South, while continuing to work with party structures, local leaders and civil society to promote transparent, people-centered governance.
