IGP Disu inspects 23 police barracks, vows improved welfare for officers
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inspected 23 police barracks across the country as part of efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of officers and their families.
The inspection, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, covered residential quarters and welfare facilities, with the IGP interacting with officers and residents to assess the condition of the infrastructure.
The statement said the exercise identified key welfare challenges and infrastructure deficits requiring urgent intervention, rehabilitation and sustained investment.
Disu said personnel welfare remains a major pillar of the ongoing police reform programme, stressing that decent accommodation and functional welfare facilities are essential for boosting officers’ morale, wellbeing and operational effectiveness.
He assured officers that the concerns and welfare needs identified during the inspection would receive appropriate attention.
According to the police chief, the exercise also reflects the Force leadership’s commitment to using evidence-based assessments to address infrastructure gaps in police barracks and improve the living environment of personnel and their families.
Disu reiterated that officers who risk their lives to protect Nigerians deserve decent and conducive living conditions, adding that improved welfare is critical to building a motivated, professional and efficient police force.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to sustained investment in accommodation, welfare infrastructure and other support systems to enhance the wellbeing of personnel and strengthen their capacity to effectively carry out their constitutional responsibilities.
