IGP Disu Approves Fresh Probe Into Mohbad’s Death After Family’s Petition
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved a petition by Mohbad’s family seeking a fresh and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
The petition has been forwarded to the Lagos State Police Command and assigned to the Special Enquiry Bureau, with the family confirming that its representative has already engaged with the new investigators.
The development follows the September 25 dismissal of a separate suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved a petition by the family of late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, seeking a fresh and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The development was disclosed by the family’s lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, in a statement dated September 29, 2026.
According to the lawyer, the Aloba family submitted the petition to the IGP on April 14, 2026, and it was received at Force Headquarters, Abuja, on May 7.
The petition raised concerns over inconsistencies in the previous investigative process and called for a comprehensive forensic reconstruction of the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
Following its approval, the petition was forwarded to the Lagos State Police Command and assigned to officers of the Special Enquiry Bureau for further investigation. The family’s representative has also been invited and has engaged with the new team handling the case.
The clarification comes days after the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a separate suit seeking to compel the police to reopen investigations into Mohbad’s death.
However, the family stressed that the dismissed suit was not filed by the Aloba family and was not instituted with its authority or consent. It therefore urged the public not to confuse the court case with the separate police process already initiated through its petition.
The family said it would continue cooperating with investigators by providing relevant information, documents, witnesses and other materials that could assist the probe.
It also urged the police to conduct the process with diligence, independence and professionalism while examining all relevant persons and circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
“The re-investigation is ongoing. The Aloba Family remains fully engaged. The pursuit of justice for Mohbad continues,” the lawyer said.
