The Managing Director of the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), Dr Femi Adekanmbi, has felicitated with His Imperial Majesty, the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, and the people of Owo on the occasion of the 2026 Igogo Festival.
In a goodwill message, Adekanmbi described the annual celebration as an important occasion for the people of Owo to come together, celebrate their heritage and renew their bonds.
He said the significance of the festival goes beyond its ceremonial aspects, as it provides an opportunity for the people, particularly the younger generation, to remain connected to the history and traditions of their forebears.
“Festivals such as Igogo remind us that development is not only about what we build today, but also about what we preserve for those who will come after us. Our traditions provide an important link between our past and the future we seek to build,” Adekanmbi said.
The BORBDA Managing Director commended the traditional institution and the people of Owo for sustaining the celebration over the years, saying its continuity was a testament to the enduring bond between the people and their ancestral heritage.
He urged the younger generation to take greater interest in the history of Owo and to regard the preservation of its traditions as a collective responsibility.
Adekanmbi also called on sons and daughters of Owo, both at home and abroad, to use the occasion to strengthen their commitment to the progress of the kingdom.
“Owo has a proud history and a people whose contributions continue to resonate beyond the kingdom. The responsibility before every generation is to preserve that inheritance while contributing meaningfully to the growth and prosperity of the community,” he added.
He expressed the hope that the 2026 Igogo Festival would be celebrated peacefully and provide an opportunity for families, friends and well-wishers to reunite.
Adekanmbi congratulated the Olowo on the occasion and prayed for wisdom, good health and a peaceful reign, while wishing the people of Owo a successful celebration.
