Denying the claims, the Speaker insisted that no money exchanged hands at any meeting, stressing that the rumours were fabricated to tarnish his image and create division within the government.
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has revealed that he was offered monetary inducement to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde but rejected the offer, describing it as an attempt to destabilise the state.
Ogundoyin made the disclosure while reacting to allegations that he had collected money from proxies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to orchestrate the removal of the governor.
Denying the claims, the Speaker insisted that no money exchanged hands at any meeting, stressing that the rumours were fabricated to tarnish his image and create division within the government.
“I was offered monetary inducement, but I declined without hesitation because no amount of money can buy my conscience or compromise my loyalty to the Governor, the party, and the people we were elected to serve,” he said.
“I remain fully committed to upholding the integrity of this House and will not be part of any agenda aimed at destabilising the government.”
The Speaker further declared that he would never betray the mandate of the people or undermine Governor Makinde’s administration, reaffirming his loyalty to both the governor and the ruling party.
According to him, attempts to create friction between him and the executive arm of government would fail.
“No one will succeed in driving a wedge between me and the administration or derail the collective mandate we were elected to uphold,” he added.
Ogundoyin emphasised that under his leadership, the Oyo State House of Assembly remains committed to constitutional order, good governance, and the overall interest of the people.
He also noted that he has consistently carried Governor Makinde along in all his political and legislative engagements.
Addressing separate claims linking his visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, to alleged political scheming, the Speaker dismissed the insinuation, clarifying that the meeting was purely traditional and consultative.
“I met the monarch to inform him of my governorship ambition and seek his blessings,” he explained, adding that the visit took place weeks before the current controversy and was rooted in respect for tradition.
The Speaker urged members of the public to disregard what he described as coordinated attempts to sow discord within Oyo State’s political leadership.
The development comes amid escalating political tension in the state following claims by former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, who alleged that Governor Makinde was plotting to remove the Olubadan.
Fayose had also claimed that the monarch was being accused of plotting to impeach Makinde, describing the situation as part of a broader political orchestration.
However, Ogundoyin’s latest revelation counters the narrative, instead pointing to alleged external efforts to induce lawmakers into turning against the governor.
Earlier, the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, also reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Makinde, distancing himself from any alleged plot to destabilise the government.
“I cannot and will not be disloyal to my boss, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde,” Oyekola had said, pledging continued support for the administration.
