I Wanted Fubara for Second Term But Chose Not To Avoid Repeating Past Mistakes – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that he initially considered supporting Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for a second term in office but later decided against it.
Wike made this statement on Tuesday during his media briefing in Abuja.
According to the former Rivers State governor, he had the intention of bringing Fubara back for another tenure but changed his mind to prevent a recurrence of previous political challenges.
“I had the mind to bring back Gov Fubara for 2nd tenure but chose not to because I don’t want what happened to repeat again,” Wike said.
The FCT Minister’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about the political future of Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Wike and Fubara, once close political allies, have experienced a turbulent relationship marked by periods of intense disagreement and subsequent reconciliation efforts.
Wike maintained that his decision was guided by the need to protect the political structure and avoid repeating mistakes that had previously destabilised the state.
