‘I Quit’: ADC National Youth Leader Sultan Bello Resigns Amid Campaign Council Controversy

The National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sultan Bello, has resigned from the party amid growing controversy over the composition of the party’s campaign council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bello announced his resignation in a letter dated September 24, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of Ja’oji Gyadi Gyadi Arewa Ward in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.
In the letter, Bello said his resignation took effect immediately, citing “extensive consultations, careful consideration, and deep personal reflection” as the basis for his decision.
He, however, did not state in the resignation letter that he was leaving because of his exclusion from any campaign council.
The development comes amid reports that Bello was left out of a campaign council list despite his previous activities within the party.
Shortly after submitting his resignation, he posted on X, “I QUIT,” adding, “Lean team apparently means lean on the people who worked, then leave them off the list. Anyway, resignation submitted. No hard feelings… just hard lessons.”

In his resignation letter, Bello expressed appreciation to his principal, former Rivers State Governor and former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, whom he credited with providing him guidance, trust, and support during his time in the party.
“I would like to express my profound appreciation to my principal, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, CON, for his guidance, trust, support, and the opportunity to work alongside him,” Bello said.
“I remain grateful for his confidence in me and wish him continued success in all his future endeavours.”
Bello also thanked the ADC leadership, stakeholders, members and supporters for giving him the opportunity to participate in the party’s activities.
He requested that his name be immediately removed from the party’s membership records.
“I respectfully request that my resignation be accepted and that my name be removed from the membership records of the party with immediate effect,” he stated.
Bello’s resignation comes at a sensitive period for the ADC as opposition politicians continue to mobilise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
ADC Youth Leader
Amaechi, whom Bello identified as his principal in the resignation letter, is currently the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is the party’s 2027 presidential candidate.
Recent reports have also identified Bello as an active supporter of the Atiku-Amaechi political project.
The resignation has therefore attracted attention because of Bello’s position as the party’s National Youth Leader and his previous role in mobilising young supporters for the party.
According to reports yet to be independently verified by SaharaReporters, Bello’s decision followed dissatisfaction over his exclusion from the ADC campaign council list.
His social media comments after submitting the resignation appeared to link his exit to the controversy, although his formal resignation letter did not expressly cite the alleged exclusion as the reason for quitting.
The resignation is not Bello’s first departure from an ADC faction this year.
In May 2026, Bello resigned as Acting National Youth Leader of the ADC faction led by Nafi’u Bala Gombe, citing what he described at the time as persistent insults and hostile attacks directed at him on social media because of his association with the faction.
He subsequently became associated with the faction led by Senator David Mark amid the prolonged leadership dispute within the ADC.
Reports at the time said Bello acknowledged his role in the party’s internal crisis and expressed support for efforts to reconcile the rival factions.
His latest resignation, however, is from the Mark-led ADC.
Bello described himself in the letter as the National Youth Leader of the ADC from 2022 to 2026.
He said his decision to leave was not taken lightly, noting that his time in the party had provided him with relationships, experiences and lessons.
“This decision has not been taken lightly,” he said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served and contributed to the growth and activities of the party during my time as a member.”
