I Defeated 17 Govs With Just A Phone; You Cannot Force Me To Have A Presidential Candidate – Davido

According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, October 16, 2026, Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he cannot be forced to support any presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election. The singer made the statement during an interview with News Central TV, days after the Osun State governorship election results were announced.

Davido explained that although his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, declared support for President Bola Tinubu after the election, he was not under any obligation to make the same political decision. He stressed that his uncle could have personal reasons for supporting the president, particularly in relation to the interests of Osun State.

The singer also spoke about his role in the political activities surrounding the Osun governorship election. He expressed confidence in his contribution, claiming that he had defeated 17 governors who had considerable political influence and access to government resources. According to him, he relied mainly on his phone to support the political effort rather than having the kind of resources available to those he opposed.

Davido said his involvement was motivated by his desire to support the people of Osun State and his family. However, he maintained that he had done what he believed was necessary and was not ready to allow anyone to dictate his political choices ahead of the next presidential election.

During the interview, the singer recalled his previous involvement in Nigerian politics. He said he had supported former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar when they were both associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also recalled participating in political activities in 2015 following the merger that led to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that his late uncle was part of the party at the time.

His comments highlight the difference between his political position and that of Governor Adeleke, despite their family relationship. While the governor has indicated his support for Tinubu, Davido has made it clear that he intends to retain his independence in deciding whom to support in future elections.

The singer’s statement also reflects his view that political support should remain a personal choice rather than an obligation imposed by family ties or other forms of pressure. For now, Davido has not committed himself to any presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
