How Viral Social Media Video Helped Us Track Murder Fugitive To Ghana – Nigeria Police

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has disclosed how international law enforcement cooperation helped track down a murder fugitive wanted in connection with the alleged abduction and killing of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The police said the suspect, identified as Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, was traced to Ghana through a viral social media video showing his movements.
According to the NPF, international law enforcement partners worked together to locate Fejemirokum, who was subsequently arrested by the Ghana Police Service and repatriated to Nigeria.
The police disclosed this on Monday while marking the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation and highlighting its collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and other international law enforcement agencies.
The Force said the case demonstrated the importance of cross-border cooperation in tracking fugitives and preventing criminals from exploiting international borders to evade justice.
It said international police cooperation had also facilitated the arrest of Mark Sunny Okoh, a Brazilian national wanted in connection with cocaine trafficking.
According to the police, Okoh fled Brazil after jumping bail but was later arrested in Okota, Lagos, following international coordination. Extradition proceedings against him have since been initiated in Brazil.
The NPF said such cooperation had produced practical results in the identification and location of victims, recovery of stolen property, tracking of fugitives, disruption of organised criminal networks and combating cyber-enabled crime.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said modern criminal networks increasingly operate across borders, making international cooperation essential to effective policing.
The police said online fraudsters target victims in different jurisdictions, while organised criminal groups move people, illicit goods and proceeds across countries.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with INTERPOL and other international law enforcement partners.
According to the Force, Disu stressed that “effective information sharing, coordinated investigations, capacity building and cross-border operational support are essential to confronting emerging security threats.”
The IGP also emphasised the need to ensure that “criminals cannot exploit jurisdictional boundaries to evade justice.”
The NPF said it would continue to strengthen partnerships that support intelligence-led policing, investigations and the protection of communities.
“As the international community marks the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation, the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to working with partners at home and abroad to protect lives and property, support victims and build safer communities,” the statement said.
