According to Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s official YouTube page on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, encouraged Christians to reject poverty while recounting how faith and perseverance helped him establish a weekly television programme despite financial challenges.
Speaking during the RCCG Annual Convention, Adeboye urged worshippers to embrace what he described as God’s blessings and boldly declare their faith. He said, “Let me hear somebody say with holy anger, ‘I refuse to be poor.'”
The cleric went on to share a personal experience from 1980, recalling his time as a lecturer at the University of Ilorin. According to him, he proposed the idea of launching a weekly television programme to preach the gospel, despite doubts from those around him.
He said, “In 1980, while I was lecturing at the University of Ilorin, I told a few of my friends that we should have a 30-minute television programme every week to preach the gospel. They told me the television station would never agree. I said, ‘Let us find out.’ We went to meet the authorities. I introduced myself as the Acting Head of the Department of Mathematics, and they decided to hear me out.”
Adeboye explained that after presenting his proposal, the television station quoted what he believed was an unusually high fee, expecting him to abandon the plan. Rather than withdraw, he accepted the terms and remained committed to the vision.
Continuing the testimony, he said, “I told them I wanted a 30-minute programme every week. They thought I might become troublesome, so they gave me a ridiculous amount to pay, expecting me to refuse. I said, ‘I will pay.’ After about three months they called me and apologised, saying they had given me the wrong price and that the correct amount was double. I said, ‘I will pay.’ Three months later they increased it again to three times the original amount. I still said, ‘I will pay.’ Everything you need to do the work of the Almighty God shall be provided for you.”
The RCCG General Overseer used the account to encourage believers to remain steadfast in pursuing what they believe God has called them to do. He stressed that commitment to a divine assignment should not be discouraged by financial obstacles, expressing confidence that God would provide the necessary resources for His work
