The Bauchi State House of Assembly
…To Spend N184m On Two Generators

The Bauchi State House of Assembly plans to splash N100 million on ten office tables and ten chairs, THE WHISTLER can authoritatively report.
This development is based on a review of the Bauchi State 2026 budget document.
But while the House of Assembly Commission plans N100 million for ten office tables and chairs, the Ministry of Finance budgeted only N50 million for a higher quantity of 25s units of ‘executive tables and chairs’.
The description reads ‘Purchase of 10 Nos of Office Chairs and 10 Nos of Office Tables for Bauchi State House of Assembly Commission’ with the budgeted amount of N100m.
With the plan to spend N100 million on ten office tables and ten chairs, it would mean that a sum of N5 million is planned on average for each purchase.
The House of Assembly also plans to spend N350m on 32 chairs and tables meant for the furnishing of Honourable Members Offices. On the average, each chair is expected to cost N5.4 million while each table is averagely expected to cost N5.4 million.
The House of Assembly also budgeted N184 million to purchase two Mikano Power Generating sets without stating the capacity of the generators to be purchased. This development comes amid poor electricity supply in the country. It would also mean that each Mikano Generator will cost N92 million on the average, given the estimates provided in the Bauchi State budget documents.
State Government Splashes N2.6 billion on ‘Assorted’ Vehicles for Commissioners, Public Office Holders in Six Months
While the House of Assembly plans N100 million for tables and chairs, further review shows that a sum of N2.6 billion was spent in six months on the “Purchase of Assorted 130 number of Official Motor Vehicle for Commissioners and Public Office Holders” by the state government. While a sum of N5.1 billion is planned to be spent for this purpose in 2026, already N2.6 billion of the money has been spent between January and June, 2026.
Further review shows that while the House of Assembly Commission plans N100 million for ten office tables and chairs, the Ministry of Finance budgeted only N50 million for a higher quantity of 25s units of ‘executive tables and chairs’.
While the state government splashed N2.6 billion on assorted vehicles, the Bauchi State Infrastructure Development Maintenance Agency spent only N17 million on its capital expenditure between January and June, 2026, despite a N2 billion budget.
The Ministry of Security and Internal Affairs also spent only N1.8 billion in Six months, an amount lesser than the N2.6 billion splashed on vehicles for public office holders and State Commissioners.
Recently, concerns were raised about the deplorable condition of a Primary Health Care Centre (PHC) in Bauchi State, which is expected to serve more than 42 communities but has reportedly been left in a severely deteriorated state.
“It is deeply troubling that a single Primary Health Care Centre is expected to serve over 42 communities in Bauchi State, yet even this lone facility has been left in a state of complete ruin,” civic group MonITng said in a statement addressed to Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Pate.
According to MonITng, the PHC remains the only accessible healthcare facility for thousands of residents across the affected communities. The group further stated that “For thousands of residents, this PHC represents the only point of access to basic healthcare. Today, that hope is collapsing literally,” describing the situation as a worsening public health concern.
Overtime experts have called for more prudence in the management of public resources with questions raised on the budgeting processes by state governments amid developmental needs.
