In a statement, the NAF said its aircraft had successfully provided close air support to surface forces during the operation, disrupting the activities of suspected criminal elements and supporting the advance of ground troops.
According to the military, the pilot made a precautionary landing while returning to base after the mission.
“Following the successful completion of the mission, the pilot, on return to base, exercised his professional discretion to execute a precautionary landing approximately 10 nautical miles from the airfield.”
The NAF said the decision was in line with established operational and safety procedures following combat missions and stressed that the helicopter was not stranded at the location.
“The helicopter has returned to base.”
The clarification came after reports and videos of the helicopter landing on farmland circulated online, with some social media users describing the incident as a crash or emergency landing.
The NAF maintained that it remains committed to supporting ground forces and sustaining operations against criminal elements across affected communities.
