The former president made the disclosure on Tuesday while attending the launch of the 999 memoir in London alongside Charly Boy.
Speaking to journalists at the event, with Charly Boy standing behind him, Obasanjo described the entertainer as someone who had a troubled past, claiming that he was once a drug addict and an “asháwo.”
Obasanjo and Charly Boy have maintained a close friendship for several years, dating back to the former president’s time in office.
Their longstanding relationship was also highlighted earlier this year when Charly Boy paid a surprise visit to Obasanjo on the occasion of his 89th birthday.
During the celebration, Charly Boy presented the former president with a large box. A video shared online showed Obasanjo opening the box in the presence of guests.
Reflecting on the birthday celebration, Charly Boy noted that Obasanjo was properly honoured, adding that the event was filled with laughter and memorable moments.
