“He Doesn’t Deserve Prison” – Sowore Steps In, Offers to Help DJ Chicken After Arrest Over Seyi Tinubu Case
Omoyele Sowore has offered legal support to DJ Chicken, saying the TikTok personality should not remain behind bars over the charges filed against him.
DJ Chicken, who pleaded not guilty to the allegations, was granted ₦1 million bail but remains in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions. The case resumes on August 3.
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has offered to support controversial disc jockey and TikTok personality Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, following his arraignment over alleged threats against Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
Sowore made the offer in a post shared on his X account on Monday, saying he was ready to advocate for the content creator and help challenge what he described as burdensome charges filed against him by the Nigeria Police.
He wrote, “If anyone knows how to reach DJ Chicken’s family or relatives, I will be happy to advocate for him and help him challenge the burdensome charges brought against him by the jobless @PoliceNG.”
Questioning the decision to prosecute the TikToker, Sowore added, “I want to help get DJ Chicken out of prison because I do not believe he deserves to spend a day behind bars; he is entitled to his liberty under the law.”
He further stated, “Young Nigerians need opportunities, guidance, and justice, not persecution and endless incarceration.”
DJ Chicken had pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to kill, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and offences under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. However, he was ordered to remain at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until he meets the bail conditions. The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
Sowore’s intervention has sparked fresh conversations online about freedom of expression, cybercrime prosecutions and the treatment of young content creators by law enforcement agencies.
