Headless Body Found on Farmland Inside Top Nigeria’s University

Fear spread across the University of Jos (UNIJOS) community on Tuesday after the body of a middle-aged man was found on farmland within the university premises.

The victim, whose identity had not been officially confirmed as of the time of this report, was discovered dead with his head missing, prompting concern among students, staff and residents.

A 300-level student of the institution, Pius Atok, said the body was found early Tuesday on a farm located within the university community. He noted that preliminary information suggested the deceased was neither a student nor a staff member of the university.

A senior university official, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed the incident. The official said initial findings indicated that the victim was a farmer who regularly cultivated crops on the farmland where his body was discovered.

According to the official, the circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, but the nature of the attack suggests the assailants may have deliberately targeted the victim before fleeing with his head.

The official added that the victim’s family had been informed and arrangements were underway to evacuate the body. University management is also aware of the incident, with the institution’s Information Directorate expected to issue an official statement.

As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident, as efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful.
