Gunmen reportedly invaded Rhythm 94.7FM, a private radio station in Yenagoa, stealing valuables including mobile phones, recorders, and other operational equipment belonging to staff on duty.

No lives were lost, but staff members were left traumatised by the ordeal.

The Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) condemned the incident.

In a statement, NUJ Chairman Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha and Secretary Comrade Stanley Imgbi described the attack as a violation of the media community and an assault on press freedom in Bayelsa.

They called on the state security agencies, particularly the Commissioner of Police, to apprehend the culprits and ensure justice.

The union also urged the police to deploy a patrol vehicle near the radio station, citing the isolated location of the media house and the presence of patrols at other key points in Yenagoa.
