Gunmen kill three women at Plateau mining site

JOS — Three women working at a mining site were killed and another person injured when gunmen attacked the facility at Rakum community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday.

The attackers reportedly stormed the mining site at about 4:30pm and opened fire on the workers before fleeing the area.

The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, BYM, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident in a separate conversation with our correspondent.

Tengwong said: “The incident happened at Rakum. Three women were killed while another person was injured when the attackers stormed the mining site and opened fire.”

He expressed concern over the safety of residents and workers in the area, urging security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible.

“This is another sad development that has further heightened concerns over the safety of people working and living in the area,” he said.

“We are calling on the security operatives to immediately go after the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice.”

A member of the community, Mr John Silas, who also confirmed the incident, said the attack occurred at about 4pm.

Silas said the attackers opened fire on people at the mining site, killing three women and injuring another person.

He expressed concern over the safety of residents, saying people should be able to carry out their legitimate activities without fear of attack.

He also appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the attackers and prevent further incidents in the community.
