Gunmen Kidnap Three Travellers On Kogi Highway, Demand ₦30million As Ransom
According to a detailed statement released on Tuesday by the Jenta Adamu Central Youth Council, the young men were returning to Jos from a business trip to Akure, the Ondo State capital, when their vehicle was intercepted.
Some gunmen have abducted three youths from Plateau State while they were travelling along a highway in Kogi State.
The victims — identified as Kweti Jonathan Menje, Habila Sunday, and Samuel — are all residents of the Jenta Adamu community within the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a detailed statement released on Tuesday by the Jenta Adamu Central Youth Council, the young men were returning to Jos from a business trip to Akure, the Ondo State capital, when their vehicle was intercepted.
The statement signed by the youth council provides the exact details of the incident:
“The Jenta Adamu Central Youth Council wishes to inform the general public and security agencies of the unfortunate abduction of three of our vibrant youth: Kweti Jonathan Menje, Habila Sunday, and Samuel.
“The victims, who are residents of the Jenta Adamu community in Jos North LGA, were traveling back to Jos from Akure, Ondo State, after a business trip when the commercial vehicle they were travelling in was intercepted by armed men in Kogi State on Monday. The gunmen forcefully took them to an unknown destination.”
Following the abduction, the kidnappers managed to establish direct communication with the distressed families of the victims to state their terms for release, placing an immense financial burden on the households.
The council expanded on the ransom details, quoting: “The abductors have since contacted the families of the victims, demanding a ransom of ₦10million for each person, totaling ₦30million, with a strict warning that they will eliminate them if the money is not paid within a specified deadline.
“This disturbing development has created fear, pain, and anxiety among family members, friends, and the entire community, considering the current economic hardship.”
Deeply worried about the safety of the three young men and the stringent timeline set by the criminals, the leadership of the Jenta Adamu community stated that they have officially confirmed the situation directly with the affected families. They are now making a direct, urgent appeal to governmental authorities to intervene before it is too late.
The community’s leadership added this plea in their official message: “We have verified these accounts from the direct families of the victims and are using this medium to appeal passionately to the federal government, the governments of Plateau and Kogi states, as well as all relevant security agencies, to swiftly intervene and secure the safe release of our brothers.
“We also call on the general public to join us in prayers for their safe return and to provide any useful information that could assist security agencies in rescuing them.”
At the time of writing, official spokespersons for the Kogi State Police Command and other related security agencies have not yet reacted to the incident.
