Gunmen Abduct Three Federal University Students In  After Attacking Lodge

Three 100-level students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) have reportedly been abducted from their off-campus lodge in Lafia, Nasarawa State, in the latest security incident involving students of the institution.

The students were reportedly kidnapped by gunmen at Sure Leaders Lodge in the Bukan Kwato area of Lafia at about 8:45pm on Saturday.

A student, who spoke on condition of anonymity to Premium Times for security reasons, confirmed the incident, saying the victims were taken from the lodge during the attack.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the university confirmed the abduction in a public safety notice issued on Sunday, stating that it had commenced engagement with traditional authorities and the university management to address the situation.

“The Students’ Union leadership has met with the District Head and relevant authorities and is collaborating with the University Management on security measures,” the statement, signed by the SUG President, Jabir Ibrahim, and Secretary-General, Ibrahim Aliyu, said.

The union urged students to remain calm while security efforts continued.

“Your safety is our top priority. Remain calm, stay vigilant, avoid unnecessary movements, especially at odd hours, and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities or the Students’ Union,” the statement added.

The Students’ Union also expressed hope for the safe return of the abducted students.

Earlier in July, SaharaReporters reported that three students of Federal University of Lafia were also abducted by gunmen in Nasarawa State, with police rescuing one of the victims during a search-and-rescue operation while efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining two students.

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel.

According to the police, the abduction occurred on Tuesday night at Living Seed Lodge, a student accommodation situated in a bushy area on the outskirts of the university’s residential community in Lafia.

The command disclosed that it received a distress call at about 9:20 p.m. from the university’s Chief Security Officer, informing the police that unidentified armed men had stormed the lodge and abducted three students.

The spokesperson said the report triggered an immediate security response ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed.

The statement read, “Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, psc, mnips, immediately ordered the deployment of tactical teams, patrol operatives, and other security personnel to the scene.”
