Gunman Carved ‘Anti-ICE’ Slogans On Bullets Used In Dallas Attack, FBI Confirms

United States Vice President James David Vance has confirmed that the gunman behind the deadly attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas used bullets carved with anti-ICE slogans.
His comments, shared in a post on X, came as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) revealed that evidence collected at the scene pointed to an ideological motive.
“The gunman had anti-ICE messaging carved on the bullets he used,” Vance wrote.
FBI Director Kash Patel had earlier said early stages of the investigation point to an “ideological motive” as he displayed images of bullets inscribed with “ANTI-ICE”.
Patel stressed that violence towards ICE facilities and officials “has to end”, adding that the FBI and its partners would take the lead on investigative efforts, BBC reports.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that two detainees and the gunman were killed, while another detainee remains in critical condition in the hospital.
Officials said the attacker fired from the rooftop of a lawyer’s office across the street before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Tricia McLaughlin, writing on social media, said: “Like everyone else, our ICE law enforcement officers just want to go home to their families at night. They are fathers and mothers. Sons, and daughters, brothers and sisters.”
The Department of Homeland Security also revealed that the gunman fired at an unmarked van near the facility. At least one victim ran out of the vehicle and attempted to seek help inside the ICE office after being shot.
Acting Director of the Dallas ICE Office, Joshua Johnson, said, “I think that the takeaway from all of this is that the rhetoric have to stop.
“There are people out there seeing what is being placed online and then they are coming in and doing acts of violence against ICE employees. It has got to stop. It is dangerous and people are losing their lives.”
FBI Special Agent Joe Rothrock confirmed the incident is being investigated as an act of targeted violence.
“If any member of the public has information that would help the FBI’s investigation, I would ask that you please report that,” he appealed.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson urged calm while addressing residents.
“Let’s be patient, let’s be calm,” he said, calling on people to “pray for the families of the folks who lost their lives.”
The ICE field office on Empress Street is not a detention centre but a temporary holding site where detainees are kept for no more than 12 hours before being transferred to larger facilities. DHS said investigations remain ongoing.
