Gumi Warns Against Ethnic Bias, Wants Amotekun,other Community Security Outfits Controlled by Police
Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has urged the Federal Government to immediately place regional and community-based security outfits, particularly those operating in the South-West, under the direct control of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to Gumi, allowing such security groups to operate without centralized oversight could pose risks to national unity. He expressed concern that alleged xenophobic tendencies, ethnic bias, and bigotry within some outfits, if left unchecked, could fuel ethnic tensions and clashes across the country.
Gumi called on the Federal Government to take proactive measures to ensure that all security operations are conducted within a unified legal and operational framework to promote accountability and national cohesion.
His comments contribute to the ongoing public debate over the role, oversight, and regulation of regional security outfits in Nigeria’s security architecture.
