REJOINDER: In Defence of the Appointment of Mr. Olusegun Olufehinti to the Board of SWDC

We have observed with concern the unjustified protests and opposition trailing the well-deserved appointment of Mr. Olusegun Olufehinti, FCA, MBA, ACIT, BSc. Banking & Finance, to the Board of the South West Development Commission (SWDC). It is both unfortunate and disappointing that some individuals are attempting to undermine an appointment rooted in merit, proven competence, and unwavering party loyalty. We wish to set the record straight and reiterate the appropriateness of this appointment for the benefit of the public.

1. Proven Qualifications and Competence

Mr. Olufehinti is a distinguished indigene of Epinmi-Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (ACIT), and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA). These qualifications, combined with over a decade of meritorious service in the Federal Civil Service—culminating in his role as Director of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), Ministry of Mines & Steel Development, as well as Youth and Sports Ministry, etc., and Member of several Presidential Committees on some key policy matters—underscore his suitability for a strategic role on the SWDC board.

His track record in both private and public service is exemplary. He has contributed significantly to national development through policy implementation and administrative reforms, especially in payroll and personnel management at the federal level. His retirement a year ago was marked by accolades from peers and superiors alike and celebrated by his community—is a testament to a career characterized by integrity, competence, and selfless service.

2. Dedication to Party Loyalty and Grassroots Engagement

Mr. Olufehinti is not only a technocrat; he is also a committed grassroots politician and a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has consistently supported the party both financially and strategically, particularly during general and gubernatorial elections in Ondo State. His contributions have helped secure victories for the party, and his loyalty has never been in question. He embodies the values and discipline expected of an APC leader.

3. Legacy of Empowerment and Community Development

While in service, Mr. Olufehinti leveraged his position to assist in the employment of many qualified indigenes of Ondo State in federal MDAs. His intervention has empowered many families and contributed to reducing unemployment in the state. His approach to leadership has always been people-centered, focusing on sustainable empowerment and inclusive development of youths and widows.

Contrary to the narrative being peddled by detractors, Mr. Olufehinti enjoys overwhelming support from stakeholders in his local government, party leadership in Ondo State, and the general populace. Leaders across political, traditional, and civil society sectors have expressed confidence in his ability to represent Ondo State effectively on the SWDC board.
