Grief as Bandits Gun Down Sokoto Chief Imam, Several Others in Deadly Midnight Attack
Residents of Kuda-Kuda village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State have been thrown into mourning following the killing of their Chief Imam, Liman Audu, by suspected bandits during a deadly attack on the community.
The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, June 24, also claimed the lives of at least three other residents, while several people were reportedly abducted by the armed assailants.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the village under the cover of darkness and operated for nearly two hours without interruption. Witnesses said the heavily armed bandits fired sporadically, creating panic among residents who fled into nearby bushes and farmlands to escape the violence.
During the invasion, the gunmen reportedly looted valuables, rustled livestock, and carried out abductions before retreating from the community.
The killing of Chief Imam Liman Audu has sparked widespread grief among residents, who described him as a respected religious leader dedicated to promoting peace, unity, and moral guidance within the community.
Many villagers expressed frustration over what they described as the absence of a timely security response despite the prolonged nature of the attack. They called on relevant authorities to strengthen security operations in the area and take decisive action against the growing menace of banditry.
The latest attack highlights the worsening security challenges facing communities across Nigeria’s northwest region, where bandit groups continue to carry out deadly raids, kidnappings, and cattle rustling operations.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, while efforts were reportedly ongoing to rescue those abducted and restore calm to the affected community.
