Governor Approves #27,000 Pension Raise – Relief at Last for Retired Workers

The Akwa Ibom State Government has approved a ₦27,000 pension increment for all retirees in the state’s public service.

The move comes as part of the government’s renewed commitment to improving the welfare of senior citizens who served the state diligently during their active years.

The increment, according to official sources, is aimed at cushioning the effect of the current economic realities and aligning pension benefits with the recently adjusted wage structure for active workers.

With this approval, pensioners across various sectors in the state will soon begin to receive the new rate in their monthly payments.

The decision has been widely commended by labour unions and pensioners’ associations, who described it as a “timely and compassionate gesture” from the state government.
