The Ondo State Government has visited Ipe-Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area following a fatal road accident involving a truck conveying onions, bags of beans and bags of rice, which claimed two lives on Saturday , October 17, 2026.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response and Safety Enforcement, Hon. (Prince) Wellington Oriade Adebawo, on Tuesday October 21, 2026, led some officials of the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA) on the visit to assess the situation and convey the state government’s sympathy to the affected community.
The accident reportedly occurred when the truck collided with a car and a motorcycle. The driver of the car, identified as 50-year-old Clement Leye, and another individual travelling in the truck lost their lives in the incident.
On arrival in Ipe-Akoko, Hon. Adebawo and other members of the delegation paid a visit to the palace of the Olu Ipe of Ipe-Akoko, Oba Francis Omokanjuola Apata, where the governor’s aide conveyed the condolences of the state government to the traditional ruler and the people of the community over the unfortunate incident.
In his response, Oba Omokanjuola expressed appreciation to the state government for its response and for sending a delegation led by the Senior Special Assistant to the community to identify with the people at a difficult time.
The monarch, however, expressed concern over the deplorable condition of the road, noting that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa had earlier promised that it would be reconstructed.
He appealed to the state government to expedite action on the reconstruction of the road, stressing the need for urgent intervention to prevent further accidents and improve the safety of road users.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Akoko South-East Local Government, Hon. Engr. Omolehin Jude Ayegbo, thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for sending a government delegation to the community following the tragic incident.
Hon. Ayegbo described the road as a vital link and the shortest route to Oba-Akoko, noting that its poor condition had become a major concern for residents and other road users.
He appealed to the governor to prioritise the reconstruction of the road, assuring that the people of the area would be grateful for such an intervention.
