Gombe PDP picks date for fresh primary, clears Pantami, 2 others
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has cleared Professor Isa Ali Pantami, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki and Usman Aliyu Garry for a fresh governorship primary election.
In a statement issued on Friday, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Abdulkadir Ahmed Dukku, said the three aspirants were cleared by to contest in the rescheduled primary election.
Daily Trust reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Gombe had on Thursday, September 24, nullified the governorship primary earlier conducted by the party and ordered a rerun within one month.
“Following the nullification, the PDP wishes to inform all its card-carrying members that there will be a gubernatorial repeat primary election on Tuesday, 29th September, 2026. All eligible voters are expected to assemble at their respective ward areas to vote an aspirant of their choice,” Dukku said.
In a separate statement, the party said it received the court judgment in good faith and respects the decision of the court.
The party also welcomed the part of the judgment that validated the membership and entry procedures of Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami into the PDP and his participation in the May 2026 primary bid.
“The judgment is presently receiving the attention of the party leadership and contestants. While the legal implications and directives contained in the judgment are being studied, we urge all members, supporters and stakeholders of our great party in Gombe State to remain calm, peaceful and united,” the statement added.
Dukku further stated that the verdict of the Supreme Court delivered Thursday evening by Justice Adamu Jauro did not affect Prof. Pantami’s eligibility to contest in the reschedule election.
He, therefore, advised members of the party to refrain from speculations and inflammatory statements capable of creating tension, assuring that the party will take all necessary steps within the law to protect its interests and preserve its democratic integrity.
