Four Killed As Gunmen Attack Plateau Community Hours After Berom Youth Leader Warned Of Planned Assaults

He warned that the suspected gunmen were positioning themselves to attack any of several identified communities across the two local government areas.

At least four people have reportedly been killed after suspected gunmen attacked Sabon Angwa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, hours after the President of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, raised an alarm over intelligence reports of planned coordinated attacks on communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas.

SaharaReporters gathered that the attack occurred on Thursday evening, October 29, 2026, at about 7:22 p.m., when the armed assailants reportedly stormed Sabon Angwa and opened fire on residents, killing four people.

The attack came just hours after Mwantiri, a lawyer, issued a security alert warning that suspected terrorist gangs had allegedly been moved into parts of Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs to carry out another round of attacks beginning Thursday night.

In a statement titled “SECURITY ALERT,” issued at 5:19 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Mwantiri said credible intelligence available to the association indicated that armed groups were mobilising in the two local government areas with plans to launch simultaneous attacks on several communities.

According to him, the suspected attackers, who were reportedly riding motorcycles, had been sighted in Fass and Rankum (Mahanga) communities in Jol District of Riyom LGA, as well as Werre (Lugere), Jong and Ruga Jalo communities in Ropp District of Barkin Ladi LGA.

He warned that the suspected gunmen were positioning themselves to attack any of several identified communities across the two local government areas.

In Barkin Ladi LGA, the villages identified as potential targets in Ropp District included Rakok, Sabon Layi, Rakung, Bet, Gassa, Razat and Dorowa-Babuje, among others.

In Fan District, the communities reportedly under threat included Rawuru, Nafan, Katirang, Nding Sesut and Rapyam, while Chit, Pwomol and neighbouring communities in Heipang District were also listed as potential targets.

Similarly, in Riyom LGA, Mwantiri identified Kwi, Wereng, Vwak, Tanjol, Tashek, Byei/Kum, Rim and Gwa-Rim, among other communities, as areas that could come under attack.

The Berom youth leader urged residents of all the identified communities and their surrounding villages to remain on high alert, warning that the planned attacks could begin during the night.

He also raised concerns about the use of drones to support the attacks, urging residents and security authorities to take the intelligence seriously.

The statement was signed by Mwantiri in his capacity as President of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association.

However, hours after the warning was issued, gunmen reportedly attacked Sabon Angwa, killing four people and heightening concerns over the security situation in the affected communities.
