Former Tinubu’s Minister urges Nigerians to reject APC ahead of 2027 elections

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reportedly urged Nigerians, particularly voters in Oyo State, to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels.

Adelabu reportedly made the appeal during an interview on Lagelu FM’s Bosenlo programme in Ibadan, hosted by Temitayo Oyeladun.

The reported remarks have attracted attention following Adelabu’s resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet in April 2026 to pursue his ambition to become governor of Oyo State under the APC platform.

His reported call comes after he lost the party’s governorship ticket to Senator Sharafadeen Alli during the nomination process for the 2027 election.

Following the outcome, Adelabu withdrew from the contest, abandoning plans to pursue an internal appeal or legal action. However, he maintained that the process was unfair and urged the APC’s national leadership to address the grievances of aggrieved party members.

His reported appeal to voters has also drawn attention to the political divisions surrounding his unsuccessful governorship bid and his relationship with the party.

Adelabu’s tenure as power minister placed him among the officials involved in the Tinubu administration’s decisions on the power sector, which continues to face persistent electricity supply challenges across the country.

In May, the former minister publicly maintained that President Tinubu had encouraged him to resign from the cabinet and pursue his long-standing governorship ambition. He also rejected claims that the President had endorsed another aspirant as the APC candidate in Oyo State.

The party subsequently selected Alli as its governorship candidate, while the nomination process generated complaints from some aspirants over its transparency and fairness.

In August, Adelabu announced his decision to end his challenge to the primary outcome, saying he wanted to protect party unity and prevent further divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.

He nevertheless maintained that withdrawing his challenge did not mean he accepted the legitimacy of the process.
