Former Lagos Commissioner emerges as South-West Zonal ADC Chairman

According to Ireporter Online, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially appointed Alhaji Rahman Owokoniran, former Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, as its South-West Zonal Chairman. The swearing-in ceremony, conducted under the authority of the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, also marked the inauguration of Owokoniran’s zonal executive committee.

In a statement to journalists, party chieftain Coker Onita dismissed reports of internal discord within the South-West branch of the ADC, describing them as baseless and deliberately misleading. He confirmed that Owokoniran was formally inaugurated and sworn in by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Bamidele Ajadi, with full endorsement from the national leadership.

Onita further rejected claims that the South-West leadership had been disowned by the national body, calling such reports “entirely false” and accusing agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to destabilise the ADC through misinformation.

He also criticized a publication attributed to a group calling itself the “ADC Lagos State Stakeholders Forum,” describing it as originating from an “unknown and faceless entity” seeking to undermine the party, labeling its members “fifth columnists.”

The party reiterated that while it encourages constructive debate and lawful engagement, it will resist any attempt at infiltration or disinformation aimed at weakening its leadership. The ADC affirmed that it remains united and committed to offering Nigerians a credible political alternative, with the South-West leadership under Owokoniran fully recognised and supported by the national leadership.
