FBI Arrests Energy Department Employee Over Alleged Houthi Links
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced the arrest of an employee of the United States Department of Energy over allegations of attempting to provide material support to the Houthis, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organisation.

FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed this in a post on X following a visit to the FBI Seattle field office, where he said the agency was working with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to tackle violent crime, terrorism and other security threats.
“Our Joint Terrorism Task Force update included the arrest of a Department of Energy employee in a case involving allegations of attempting to provide material support to the Houthis, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization,” Patel wrote.
He also highlighted the agency’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and violent crime through its Homeland Security Task Forces and Operation Third Strike.
According to the FBI director, operations conducted by FBI Seattle and its law enforcement partners had led to the seizure of more than 846,000 fentanyl pills, nearly seven kilogrammes of fentanyl powder, seven kilogrammes of cocaine and 29 firearms.
“Through our Homeland Security Task Forces and Operation Third Strike, FBI Seattle and our partners are taking dangerous criminals off the streets,” he said.
Patel further disclosed that the Seattle team was supporting cybersecurity initiatives aimed at protecting critical national infrastructure, including Operation Winter Shield.
Providing an update on crime statistics, the FBI director said homicides in Seattle declined by 36 per cent in 2025 compared with 2024, while overall crime recorded an 18 per cent decrease within the same period.
He attributed the reported improvements to cooperation among law enforcement agencies, describing the approach as an example of effective policing.
“This is what effective law enforcement looks like — strong partnerships, coordinated operations, and a relentless focus on making our communities safer,” Patel stated.
He commended personnel at the FBI Seattle field office and other law enforcement partners for their contributions to the operations.
“Thank you to the entire @FBISeattle team and our law enforcement partners for the outstanding work every day,” he added.
