A viral broadcast on WhatsApp claims President Tinubu has ordered the disbursement of ₦50,000 for citizens in celebration of Muslim festival, Eid Al-adha.
The claim started circulating just a few hours to the day of the Muslim festival, which will be celebrated globally on June 6.
The post claims that President Tinubu, who is a Muslim himself, through the Federal Government, will distribute the cash gift to all Nigerians.
The claim was recently shared to a WhatsApp group with more than 400 members.
Verification:
Ripples Nigeria can authoritatively report that the President, Tinubu has not ordered the Federal Government to distribute cash gift to citizens for Sallah.
The post in circulation is a phishing link targeting Nigerians. Following through with the registration process exposes individuals to cyberattacks.
The landing page typically of phishing sites asks for a phone number, and instructs that the link be shared to other groups to claim the reward.
Usually, no reward is given to unsuspecting social media users after they share the link to five groups of 15 friends.
Conclusion:
President Tinubu has not ordered the Federal Government to disburse cash gift to Nigerians for Sallah.
