Enugu Police Command Probes Video Of Woman Forced To Eat Human Faeces, Hunts Suspects
According to the police, preliminary findings indicated that Okonkwo was allegedly subjected to severe abuse, including being forced to eat human faeces, over accusations that she practised witchcraft and was responsible for the death of her husband’s brother’s wife.

The Enugu State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged assault and degrading treatment of a woman in her 60s in Amafu Village, Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area, after a video showing her alleged abuse went viral.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.
In a press release, the command identified the victim as Chinenye Okonkwo and said police operatives had visited her to obtain her statement.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicated that Okonkwo was allegedly subjected to severe abuse, including being forced to eat human faeces, over accusations that she practised witchcraft and was responsible for the death of her husband’s brother’s wife.
The command said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest the suspects, who had allegedly fled after the incident. It did not disclose how many people were involved or whether any arrests had been made as of the time of the statement.
Giwa condemned the alleged treatment of the woman and directed investigators to conduct a thorough investigation and intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and their accomplices.
The commissioner also warned against jungle justice and other forms of self-help, stressing that anyone found responsible for the alleged abuse would face the full weight of the law.
The incident comes amid renewed attention to violence against people accused of witchcraft, with such allegations sometimes leading to abuse and public humiliation instead of being reported to law enforcement authorities.
The police said the investigation was continuing as officers worked to bring those responsible to justice.
