Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man, Ugbor Chika Paul, for allegedly conducting a spree of serial rape, robbery, and cyber-sextortion targeted at young women and Point-of-Sale (POS) operators within the state capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect operated a predatory scheme by targeting female POS operators under the pretence of carrying out large cash transactions, only to lure them to secluded areas where he violently robbed and sexually assaulted them.

Police further disclosed that Paul created a fraudulent Facebook profile under the moniker “Franklin Umeh” to cat-fish and entrap unsuspecting young women.

A search conducted following his apprehension led to the recovery of his mobile phone, which reportedly contained recorded nude images and video clips of both identified and unidentified female victims.

Detailing the suspect’s modus operandi, Ndukwe who did not disclose when the suspect was arrested, revealed that on May 21, 2026, the suspect lured his first known victim, identified as a 20-year-old POS operator at Akwata Market, Enugu, to a bushy area behind St. Peter’s Church, Coal Camp, around 11:00 a.m.

According to the police, he allegedly raped her and dispossessed her of ₦600,000 cash.

The statement partly read: “The first victim, a 20-year-old POS operator at Akwata Market, Enugu, whose identity is withheld, was allegedly lured to a bush behind St. Peter’s Church, Coal Camp, at about 11:00 a.m. on 21 May 2026, where the suspect allegedly robbed and raped her, taking ₦600,000.

“The second victim, a 30-year-old POS operator at the same market, was allegedly lured to the same location at about 5:00 p.m. on 11 August 2026 and robbed of ₦120,000, after unsuccessful attempts to also rape her.

“The third victim, aged 21, was allegedly lured through Facebook by the suspect, posing as Franklin Umeh, to Old Park, Enugu, at about 11:30 a.m. on 4 October 2026, before being taken to a bush around Udi Siding.”

“He allegedly raped and sexually assaulted her, recorded her nude, and robbed her of ₦100,000 and her phone. He subsequently threatened to circulate the video unless she paid ₦200,000 and allegedly used her phone to contact some of her WhatsApp contacts,” the police added.

The Command noted that investigations remain ongoing and assured that the suspect would be arraigned in court as soon as findings are concluded.

Police authorities have called on other women who may have fallen victim to the suspect’s syndicate or experienced similar cyberstalking and sextortion to step forward and assist ongoing investigations.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to crack down on sexual violence, robbery, and cyber-enabled crimes, while urging residents, particularly female entrepreneurs and POS operators, to exercise heightened vigilance when conducting transactions with strangers.
