EFCC Arrests 55 Suspected Internet Fraudsters In Ogun Hotel Raid, Recovers Guns

The commission said the suspects were arrested during a sting operation conducted on Wednesday at K Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has said that its Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 55 individuals suspected of engaging in internet-related fraud in Ogun State and recovered two guns and other incriminating items.
The commission said the suspects were arrested during a sting operation conducted on Wednesday at K Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
The anti-graft agency in a statement issued on Thursday said the arrest followed “credible and actionable intelligence” received by the Commission on the fraudulent cyber activities allegedly being carried out by the suspects.
Among those arrested are; Ogunniyi Oluwaseun, Babalola Ibrahim, Dada Qowiyu, Kunle Ajayi, Rufai Suleman, Babajide Shedrack, Oloyede Toheeb, Monday Joseph, Akinbode Babatunde, and Oyedipe Micheal.
Others include Adekunle Jeremiah, Mustapha Muyideen, Mike Opeyemi, Bale Abayomi, Odukoya Samuel, Joseph Oyegunle, and several others, bringing the total to 55.
The Commission said items recovered during the raid include six exotic cars, two locally-made pistols, a motorcycle, numerous mobile phones and laptops, incriminating documents, and eighty-nine unclaimed phones.
According to the EFCC, the suspects have already provided “useful information” during preliminary investigations and will be charged to court in due course.
Wednesday’s operation marked the latest in a series of coordinated crackdowns by the EFCC targeting suspected cybercrime hotspots, particularly in Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos States.
In June 2025, the Commission arrested 33 suspected internet fraudsters in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a similar intelligence-driven raid.
Earlier in May, over 40 suspects were apprehended in Abeokuta in a separate operation.
Many of those arrested in past operations were also found in hotels or rented apartments, reportedly used as hideouts for cybercrime activities.
The EFCC said it has continued to intensify its efforts against internet fraud, often referred to locally as “Yahoo Yahoo,” which has become a widespread concern among Nigerian authorities due to its impact on the country’s international reputation and financial system.
The Commission urged hotel owners, landlords, and the general public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
The suspects remain in EFCC custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
