he Edo State Police Command has arrested seven suspected members of a notorious cult group and recovered a six-month-old baby allegedly stolen from the state and taken to Imo State.
The command also arrested suspects linked to the alleged stripping of a young girl and circulation of the material on social media, as well as a 37-year-old man accused of raping a 70-year-old woman in Igueben.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed this in a statement presented by the command’s Public Relations Officer during a press briefing on Wednesday.
According to the command, the arrests and recovery were part of sustained intelligence-led operations conducted across the state in the past week.
The police said it had also concluded a one-week joint clearance operation across parts of Edo North aimed at dislodging criminal elements and destroying their hideouts in forest areas.
The command said the operation had yielded positive results, noting that the affected areas remained relatively calm and peaceful, with no reported kidnapping incident during the period.
“In another significant development, operatives of the Gender and Family Unit successfully recovered a six-month-old baby allegedly stolen and taken to Imo State, while suspects connected to the incident were arrested,” the statement said.
The police said the recovered child had since been reunited with the family.

The arrests, according to the police, followed an intelligence-driven operation aimed at curbing cult-related activities in the area.
The command also disclosed the arrest of suspects allegedly involved in the stripping of a young girl and the subsequent circulation of the material on social media around the Ekiadolor axis.
The suspects are currently in police custody while investigation into the incident continues.
“The Command will ensure that anyone found culpable is made to face the law,” the statement said.
On sexual violence, the police said a 37-year-old male suspect was in custody over the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben.
The command said the case was being thoroughly investigated and that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law after the conclusion of the investigation.
The police described the operations as part of its efforts to maintain pressure on criminal elements and protect lives and property across Edo State.
The Commissioner urged residents to continue providing the police with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing and solving crimes.
He also called on parents and young people to shun cultism and other forms of criminal association.
The commissioner further urged members of the public to use social media responsibly and desist from using digital platforms to humiliate, threaten, expose or sexually violate other people.
“Sexual violence in any form is a criminal offence and must not be tolerated or concealed,” the command said.
The Edo State Police Command assured residents that it would continue to take action against criminal activities across the state.
