“Do not dress to kill.” – UNILAG Issues Safety Tips to Female Students on Preventing sexual Harassment and Rape on Campus
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has issued a series of safety tips for female students aimed at preventing $3xual hara$$ment and r@p3 on campus.
On Monday, July 27, the university, through its Student Affairs Division, displayed roll-up banners across the campus advising female undergraduates to adopt precautionary measures to enhance their personal safety.
Among the recommendations listed on the banners were:
“Do not dress to k!ll.”
“Do not shake hands anyhow with any man.”
“Do not mingle carelessly with men.”
“Do not stay alone with a man in a hidden place.”
“Do not seek unnecessary favour from men.”
“Do not join to watch p0rn0graphic films/pictures.”
“Do not accept intox!cants and be vigilant when you are served with drinks.”
“Do not give in to pressure – be assertive.”
“Learn to say no.”
“One-time s#x can cause you pregnancy; if you don’t want it, don’t try it.”
The safety campaign has generated reactions on social media, with some people supporting the university’s effort to educate students on personal safety, while others argued that greater emphasis should also be placed on addressing the behaviour of perpetrators and strengthening measures to prevent $3×ual v!0lence on campus.
