Delta Police PRO Reacts To Photo Of A New Police Recruit Using iPhone 12 Pro During Screening

A photograph of a young police applicant holding an iPhone 12 Pro during a screening exercise in Delta State has sparked a viral conversation on social media, prompting a witty response from the Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe.

The image, which captured the recruit using the premium smartphone while undergoing the official recruitment process in Asaba, quickly trended on X (formerly Twitter).

The visual contrast between a “fresh” recruit and a device worth hundreds of thousands of Naira ignited a debate among Nigerians regarding the personal wealth of security personnel.

The conversation was triggered by a social media user who shared the photo with a caption in Nigerian Pidgin, expressing shock at the recruit’s choice of mobile hardware.

“Recruit done dey use 12 Pro?” the user questioned.

The post suggested a common public assumption: that individuals entering the police force typically come from modest backgrounds or that owning such a high-end device is inconsistent with the status of a trainee.

Known for his active and often candid engagement with the public on social media, SP Bright Edafe weighed in on the discussion.

Rather than a formal press release, Edafe opted for a humorous yet strategic remark aimed at curbing future “harassment” or profiling of officers who own expensive personal items

So that tomorrow when you see a policeman using it, you won’t ask many question,” Edafe replied.

The spokesperson’s comment was widely interpreted as a “pre-emptive strike” against the stereotyping of police officers.

By highlighting that recruits enter the force already possessing personal assets, Edafe subtly challenged the narrative that any officer seen with an expensive phone must have acquired it through illicit means.
