Delta Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Minneapolis After Severe Turbulence Injures 25

Turbulence remains a persistent challenge for air travel, and experts warn it is worsening due to the climate crisis.

ADelta Air Lines flight en route to Amsterdam was forced to make an emergency landing in Minneapolis after it encountered “significant turbulence”, leaving at least 25 people injured.

The flight, which had departed from Salt Lake City, Utah, was diverted to Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport where emergency responders quickly mobilised, according to The Guardian.

“Medical personnel met the flight upon arrival to evaluate customers and crew. Twenty-five of those on board were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and care,” Delta said in a statement.

The airline added: “We are grateful for the support of all emergency responders involved.”

Turbulence remains a persistent challenge for air travel, and experts warn it is worsening due to the climate crisis.

“We can expect a doubling or tripling in the amount of severe turbulence around the world in the next few decades,” Paul Williams, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Reading, told the BBC.

BBC also reported that, according to National Transportation Safety Board data, the US has recorded 207 severe injuries linked to turbulence since 2009.

These injuries are classified as severe when the individual is hospitalised for over 48 hours.
