Defence Minister Musa Issue Final Warning to Gumi, Others Over Alleged Terrorism Sympathy
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has issued a strong warning to individuals accused of sympathising with terrorist groups, signaling a tougher stance against activities perceived to undermine national security.
The warning, which comes amid ongoing military operations against insurgents and bandits across parts of the country, specifically referenced controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi, who has previously been accused by critics of maintaining close ties with armed groups in the North-West.
Speaking during a recent security briefing, the Defence Minister stressed that the federal government would no longer tolerate any form of support direct or indirect for criminal elements terrorising communities. He warned that individuals found aiding, abetting, or providing moral justification for such groups would face the full weight of the law.
The Chief of Defence Staff reinforced the position, noting that the military is intensifying intelligence gathering and surveillance efforts to identify collaborators and sponsors of terrorism. He added that the armed forces remain committed to restoring peace and stability across all troubled regions.
This latest development comes at a time when security agencies have recorded renewed offensives against bandits and insurgents, particularly in the North-West and North-East, where communities have continued to face attacks, kidnappings, and displacement.
